about

The concept of Gravity Resting Plan came about while I was listening back to the first two songs I wrote for the album; Memories of a Fairground, and We Called It Home. I was listening to the songs and I felt a sense of relaxation I never experienced before. It felt as if all the cells in my body relaxed as I sunk down into my bed with the notion that gravity, combined with the music, were a medium for relaxation and healing. It was perhaps one of the most peaceful experiences I can recall.

Gravity Resting Plan is my most instrumentally diverse album yet. While it features many similar synth voicings and instrumentation of past albums, it also features an ambient opera vocal performance by collaborator, Julie Rumbold, three live string quartet performances, a melodica, virtual orchestral percussion, and some new synth sounds if you listen closely enough.

All instruments real and virtual on this album were tuned to 432 Hz instead of the universally standard 440 Hz tuning. I made this decision because I felt that with the 432 Hz tuning, the music would have less tension, more breathing room, and an overall stronger healing effect.
